Walking – a tool #greaterthanstroke

I know too many people who have passed away from stroke, from my grandmother to friends younger than 40 years. It is devastating and serves as a reminder of how crucial stroke prevention truly is.

We are challenged to use the emotional power of sports to drive awareness and inspire each other to take ‘DAILY’ actions that can lower our stroke risk.

With busy schedules, finding time for health can be challenging, but research shows that just 30 minutes of exercise a day can reduce stroke risk by up to 25%! The power is in the little at a time, but consistently.

Truth is exercise does not need to be too hard, especially if you are not competing in the olympics. Just take on the forms of exercise you can enjoy and make a habit – dancing, cycling, strolling, stretching, walking, yoga…etc

Ironically, the times I walk the most (as much as 21,600 steps a day) are when I am traveling. Exploring new places on foot is not only enjoyable but, as it turns out, great for my health! Thankfully, my hobby keeps me moving.

Whether it is a walk, some stretches, or a bike ride, find an activity you love and make it part of your routine. I want to add dancing to mine, anyone with me on this?

Physical activity is a powerful tool in reducing stroke risk factors, and small, consistent steps can make us #GreaterThanStroke.

Let’s make movement a priority and take action to care for our health.
